As a young child, Barbara lived with her paternal grandfather Vede, her paternal grandmother Bella, her father Reggie, her aunts, and her dog Beauty.

She was a devout Catholic and active member of Sacred Heart and Notre Dame parishes. Together, Barbara and Darryl instilled the values of honesty, hard work, independence and respect for all into the roots of the family tree. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her greatest pride was providing for her family and seeing them flourish. Barbara enjoyed the simple things in life and made sure that the house was always filled with music, food, love and respect. Their deep and enduring love for each other lasted for over fifty years, remaining undiminished after Darryl passed away in 2013. In 1962, Barbara and Darryl married and began an old-fashioned storybook life together raising six children, whom they cherished. She met the love of her life, Darryl Cowan, at the Waterville Morning Sentinel, where she worked for over thirty years as a talented typist, eventually advancing to become the secretary for the General Manager. Barbara was born in Waterville in 1937, and attended St. Barbara Anne Cowan Barbara Anne Cowan 1937-2021 Waterville-Barbara Anne Cowan (Gagnon), 83, of Waterville, Maine, passed away on February 16th, 2021, with loving family members by her side.
